FAQs (frequently asked questions)

Can I use a machine translation?

You can, but no one would understand it. Language is so complex that it will take many years until there is software capable of producing reasonable translations.

I know someone who speaks English - can't he/she translate?

There's much more to translation than just knowing a foreign language. An excellent command of the language is required to choose just the right vocabulary to create a text which will appeal to its intended audience. A professional translator also knows how and where to find the correct terminology. Only a top class professional can consistently deliver top class translations.

What if I'm not satisfied with a translation?

Don't accept it. A translation must suit your purpose! Tell your translator why you're not satisfied and request corrections. It may only need a slight alteration to satisfy your needs.

How long does a translation take?

Far longer than most people think. Very often two-thirds of a translator's work is research. It depends on the text. We can only give you a correct answer if you send us the text.

How are charges calculated?

Translations are charged per line of 55 keystrokes of translated text. All names, addresses, numbers etc. are deducted, provided that the original documentation is delivered in electronic form. A maximum price will be quoted in advance. A fixed price can also be agreed if requested.

How can I help the translator?

Give your translator as much time as possible to avoid rushed jobs. Provide as much information as possible to save time spent in research. Provide feedback. Good texts are a product of a partnership between client and translator
